10-steps-decide-what-you-wantOn our way to creating desired results in any significant area of our lives, many of us don’t reach those ultimate goals. Why? I think the reason most of us fail to get what we want, is that we fail to complete the first unbreakable rule of getting what we want. That unbreakable rule is to clearly identify and describe in detail exactly what we want. That may seem like a very simple step, but it turns out to be the main obstacle standing in our way – failing to clearly and fully identify what we want. We may have an idea of what we want, or wish we could do, be, or accomplish something, but we fail to describe it all in detail. The funny thing is that we’re pretty awesome at identifying what we don’t want. Fortunately however, we can use truth as our guide. The truth is, where we focus our energy, is exactly where all our energy goes. So the cause effect relationship would be that what we focus on most – is also what we tend to create most in our lives.

Today, I want to focus in on this key area of what life coaching help with. That is, getting clear on and identifying exactly what we want in each significant area of our lives. Then once that is established, next we can we keep those goals in our focus as often as possible and thus we can concentrate on taking action towards their attainment.

Identify What You Want With These 10 Effective Questions

Can you be happy if you are wealthy but not healthy? Can you be happy if your job is fulfilling, but your spouse or significant others are always upset that you have little or no quality time together? An effective way to identify what you want is to ask yourself some effective questions.

Here are some simple questions that can help offer some balance. (You can customize them as you see fit.)

1) What is most important to me in my personal and family life?

2) What can I do to have an abundance of physical health and energy?

3) What are my short term and long term financial goals? What do I need to do to ensure I meet these goals and enjoy the process?

4) What is most important to me in relationships with my family and friends?

5) What is most important to me in my career and work life balance?

6) What is most important to me in my quality of life?

7) What skills do I need to master to increase the value I can contribute to the marketplace?

8) What is most important to me in my day-to-day living?

9) What obstacles stand between achieving each of my goals? What actions can I take to move past these obstacles and achieve my goals?

10) How do I want to be remembered when it’s all said and done?

If you are committed to making a positive difference in your life, you need to be clear of what’s going to make it happen for you – in all the important areas of your life. A very effective way to get the answers – is to ask the questions. To me, what makes for a happy and fulfilled life, is balance. Knowing exactly what we want in each important area of our life is the first step to that fulfillment. To take it a step further, we should not be discouraged if we don’t get what we want right away. It may just be that it’s not the right time. When we are ready to achieve a goal, we will! read more

Get unstuck-overcoming obstacles

Have you ever had a goal that you started to make some progress on, but hit an obstacle, got stuck and ultmately never reached that goal? I know I have! How valuable would it be if we could learn to overcome these obstacles quickly and get unstuck, so they don’t disrupt the achievement of our goals and ultimately our overall success?

Firstly, it’s really important that we are aware that as soon as we set a goal, there are also going to be obstacles by default. It’s inevitable; and knowing obstacles will always be in our way is important. Why? Because we can then mentally prepare ourselves to not get too discouraged when they come up. Instead, we can learn to get excited, as we know once we overcome the obstacle we will make progress and keep on moving steadily towards the achievement of our goal. So then:

Step 1: Accept That Obstacles Are Always Going to ‘Happen’

The first step of dealing with obstacles, is accepting that they will always be there. This gives us an instant advantage over the obstacle. This first step helps by taking the power we would normally give to the obstacle away and instantly puts us in the power position instead. Now that we are aware that obstacles will always pop up, we’re ready to attack them head on. So step one is very fundamental – understand that when we have goals there will also be preexisting obstacles that we will inevitably need to solve in order to move to the next step of our plan.

Step 2: Dealing With Your Self-Talk

We have all had an important goal in mind, but for some reason or another, we start having reservations of whether we can really pull it off. When we initially thought of this goal we were really excited and ready to go for it! However, a little while after, these little voices inside our heads start to go at it. “You know you’re going to have to work twice as hard right?”, “He’s going to argue I can’t do it!”, “I’m not going to have any time to watch TV.”, “It’s going to cost too much to start up.” Why is this happening? This Self-Talk is totally disempowering and echoes the fears of not being accepted, loved, failing or even looking foolish or embarrassed if we fail. Thus, we have to find a way to take action despite these little voices inside our head. Why? Because these little voices will usually cause us to hesitate and not take any action at all. When this happens, do the chances of achieving a goal without any action increase or decrease? You’re right – they decrease! Is it any wonder why so many of us don’t make much progress on our goals and thus never achieve them? So, how do we deal with our negative Self-Talk? Dr. Helmstetter, a pioneer of self-talk audio says, that listening to pre-recorded positive self-talk audio can transform our negative and disempowering self-talk that usually leads us to failure, to the empowering self-talk and self belief of success!

Self-talk audio is used by many people in various walks of life to aid in the process of reprogramming their inner self-talk. For more information about self-talk click here. I highly recommend it and provide this to you as part of my life coaching sessions life coaching sessions. read more
