    The term self improvement sounds simple, but what does it really mean?

    It’s typically defined as improvement of one’s mind, character, etc., through one’s own efforts. When I think of self improvement, I think of where I am today (point A) in a certain area of my life (self-esteem, health & fitness, quality of life etc.) and then where I really want to be (point B) in those areas. Since I haven’t gotten to where I really want to be in those areas yet, what do I need to improve about myself to get there? What kind of skills do I need to develop and what kind of a mindset do I need to strengthen in order to achieve what others have done before me?

    There is no Luck in Self Improvement

    We are not where we are today because of luck. In fact, we are where we are today because of choices we have made. We didn’t just wake up one morning and know how to read, cook a delicious meal, play the guitar or be the CEO of Amazon. A question I asked myself a while back was “Why are some people better off than others? What has driven their personal success?” I found out what caused many people to succeed at any endeavor, whether their career, family life, personal finances or health, was that they had learned the skills or improved themselves to take action on what causes success in those areas. They continuously improved until they found what worked, and even then, there was room for improvement – the key, being of course that they learned to take consistent actions that eventually turned into successful habits.

    The Ultimate Value of Self Improvement

    Ultimately, continuous self improvement results in our acting in a way that can cause us to succeed. I used to think that successful people were born successful, or that it was a talent that only some people had, or yes, that people were just “lucky.” I later found out that it didn’t matter how much money, intelligence, power, influence or any other successful trait that someone had – most of them had worked their tails off and developed the skills that made them successful. It was those who figured out exactly what they wanted, found out the right steps to take and then took massive, consistent action to actualize their goals – that’s what created personal success in their lives.

    Final Thoughts on Self Improvement

    From my experience, what causes personal success is first making a distinction that the results you are creating are not up to your standards, but also knowing that you can change and direct your life in a way that you now want. To make a positive change in our lives, self improvement is necessary. How can you improve yourself in any significant area of your life? Books, classes, videos, inspirational biographies, reading the bible or other spiritual works that can inspire and instruct you. Remember, in order for us to create different results, a change is needed. Why? Because we can’t create different results if if we’re consistently taking the wrong actions. We need some kind of change. Change of thoughts will lead to changed beliefs that can replace limiting beliefs.
